Invented by the British mathematician William George Horner in 1834, the Daedalum is an early machine that gives the illusion of a moving picture. A cylinder with vertical slits around the sides allowing a view of sequenced images on the interior, the images are brought to life when the cylinder is spun on its central axis. It is also commonly known as a Zoetrope, so named by the American William Lincoln in 1867 when patenting the technology.
