Luis A. Tapia

Born in Mexico, Luis grew up in the United States, or more specifically, the former Republic of Texas. For the last nine years he has called Shanghai home. He holds a degree in East Asian Studies from Princeton University, and speaks English, Mandarin Chinese, and Spanish fluently, as well as spotty French. His imitation of a British accent is, by his own reckoning, "spot on."

Luis writes, directs, and edits films, videos, documentaries, and commercial projects. He has a feature script, Furnaces, in development, and directed Furnaces: Act One, its short film adaptation. Luis directed the documentary shorts Shanghai Memorial, The Tour, Holdem China, Cotton, Up from the Underground, and most recently Human Flesh Search Engine. He recently collaborated with Mark Schoellkopf on the feature-length script Cargo, and is currently editing his most recent short film, Hukou. He acted in and is co-producing Arnaud Kamphuis' The Disappearance of Alistair Bell.

He has done video work for clients including Allergan, AmCham Shanghai, Apple, ArvinMeritor, Austen Morris, Bader TV, Botox, Caterpillar, Club G Plus, Diageo, Durex, ECCO, ExxonMobil, General Electric, General Motors, Honeywell, Intel, Jack Morton, Kimberly-Clark, Nike, Novartis, OnStar, Shanghaiist, Shanghai Weekly, Sohu, Touch Media, Split Works, Tesco, Topco, TE Connectivity, Vestian, Visible Vision, Weber Shandwick, and Wiley-Blackwell.  He has worked on both seasons of The Amazing Race: China Rush (broadcast on ICS, Dragon TV, CCTV-2 and -9), this season as Assistant Director.

Luis is an Apple Certified Pro in Final Cut Pro and an experienced user of Motion and Color.
